Beyond the Gilded Cage Art Exhibition
Artworks inspired by the words of Stephen King are currently being showcased by Art Space Collective in their Scarborough gallery.
The project, titled Beyond the Gilded Cage, is a response to King’s Shawshank Redemption.
“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure”.
A group of diverse artists have collaborated on the project, using a variety of mediums including oil paintings, giclee prints, etchings, drawings and photographs to evoke distinct meanings from these poignant words.
Prominent Western Australian artists Shaun Tan, Lori Pensini, Shana James and Roslyn Nolen are displaying their work, along with other local artists.
Art Space Collective is running the exhibition until August 25. The gallery is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm.
Make sure you come down and support our local artists. While you’re here, you can visit the Contacio site, which is where 3 Oceans Property are proposing a new redevelopment project.
